December 17th Weekly Blog

Purpose Corner - This past Friday we had the first of two days of inquiry group share-outs during our Friday morning PLC time. Our teachers have been working hard to implement instruction for increasing student achievement and gathering data on the effectiveness of their implementation. When we come back from our holiday break I will share examples of what this looks like. Below is our Theory of Action which focuses our direction and drives us to share purpose around realizing our vision for this year.

Welcome to West Night - Thank you to all staff members who worked diligently to have another successful Welcome to West Night and to all of the families that came to check us out a week ago Monday on December 10th. The lemonade and cookies were exceptional and I hope all in attendance enjoyed our activities. Some pictures below capture some of the information provided as part of this night!

West Holiday Concert - This past Thursday our band, choir and orchestra students put their talent on display during our collaborative Holiday Concert. One of the things I am thankful for in my job is how blown away I am by our student's talents during concerts, plays, competitions, and other events....it is such a treat to witness!! Please enjoy this brief 8-minute clip of our student's musical skills!

Graduation Information 2019 - Graduation day for the all three Waukesha legacy high schools will be Saturday, June 8th, 2019. Waukesha West High School will be holding graduation ceremonies in the West Fieldhouse on this date beginning at 2:00 P.M. As we are one community divided into three high schools, graduation times among all three high schools are staggered per usual to enable friends and family to attend multiple ceremonies if they so choose. South High School ceremonies will begin at 10:00 A.M. and North High School ceremonies will begin at 12:00 P.M. on this date. Please begin informing friends and family who will be attending.

Challenge Day Momentum - I will continue to update some of the things we will be doing to keep our momentum from Challenge Day! I encourage anyone to access the Challenge Day website to learn more about it. https://www.challengeday.org/

Raptor System - The Raptor system is a district-wide safety tool that is being implemented at all schools. in case you did not see the note from our district, it is below for your convenience. West High School will require all individuals to check-in using the "Raptor" system when you enter the building every time. This is now our official check-in and check-out system. I ask that all community members be courteous to our front desk staff as they implement these procedures per my directive. If you have an issue or concern please contact me, Principal Ryan Patt, directly. Thank you.

Dear parents and guardians,
We would like to make you aware of a security upgrade at all of our schools. Beginning Monday, Nov. 27, all visitors who enter a school building during normal school hours will be required to check into the school office and present a valid Identification ( Drivers License, State Issued ID, Military ID, or Consular ID ).  Upon arrival, your identification will be scanned using the Raptor Visitor Management System. This software was purchased using funds provided by the State of Wisconsin School Safety Grant. Raptor provides immediate, real-time background checks on individuals to identify sex offenders and deny them entry. Once a visitor has been scanned, the system will print a visitor ID badge that is worn by the visitor for the duration of their visit.  We ask that the visitor present their ID each time they visit and a new visitor badge will be printed. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this new procedure and know that you share our desire to keep our students and our buildings safe. Thank you.

Tony and Tina's Wedding! - The West End Players were at it once again this past weekend as they performed Tony and Tina's Wedding. The play is interactive in that all attendees are treated to dinner and are part of the wedding thus part of the show!! This play was unique in that the food was prepared by students in our Family & Consumer Science culinary classes. I was fortunate to sample some of the outstanding food. Thank you to all involved in bringing this improv show to West with success, the hours were many between staff and students. Enjoy the pictures below.

Grades & Fees - Monday, November 5th marked the end of Quarter 1 and grades for the first quarter have been posted.  This grade along with the grade from Quarter 2 will be used to ultimately determine a grade for Semester I which will be posted the end of January.  Please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to view your student's grades. While you are in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal, please review your student's fees.  All 2018 - 2019 fees were due October 1st.  Please use the online RevTrak Portal accessible through Infinite Campus to pay your student's fees as soon as possible.  Outstanding fees are subject to collections by our Business Office. Thank you!

December 10th Weekly Blog

Student of the Month Celebrations!! - We love to celebrate our students and we do this through our "Student of the Month" recommendation process. Teachers choose students who are showing worthy attributes for recognition and send the names to us. We love to have fun and celebrate as they are called up to receive their certificate and t-shirt! Our teaching staff joins us in the office when they can!!

Clubs and Activities at West High School!! - We are fortunate to offer multiple clubs and activities for our students at West High School to engage in. Interact is a club that has continued to put service to the community first and consistently raises funds and spends time focusing on giving back. Recently they held their annual rummage sale for supporting HAWS and Wildlife in Need. They raised over $1,900.00 dollars to give to these organizations!! Thank you to Interact members for all of their hard work.

Student Council Food Drive - The Food Drive is in full swing!! Student Council cannot wait to collect your non-perishable goods to donate to the Waukesha Food Pantry. The collection started Monday, December 3rd and will end Friday, December 14th. You can donate by dropping off non-perishables in the atrium near the front of the main staircase, you cannot miss the huge amount of food that is starting to accumulate!! We are hoping to beat last year’s donation record again! Thanks again for helping in the largest donation to the Waukesha Food Pantry every year!
