February 26th Weekly Blog

Purpose Corner - In this short "purpose corner" I discuss what we are doing this week for our professional development time on Friday morning...

Please click here for this 1:32 video

National Merit Scholars - 1.5 Million down to 16,000.... or about 3% of all students who take the PSAT qualify as National Merit semi-finalists based on their outstanding academic and personal characteristics. West High School has two outstanding Seniors who are recognized as being semi-finalists and they are Jordan Rodrigues and Andrew Zagorski. This distinction is a true honor and please join me in congratulating them on this outstanding achievement....way to go guys!!!!!

Wolverine Leadership Academy - Our WLA recently completed one of their projects of a student informational wall...I guess known as the "West Wall." Their goal was to have more clear and visible communication about the happenings at West and all clubs and activities are invited to show what they are doing on a daily basis. It is a great visual and the clarity of community is outstanding!

Advisory at West - During our Monday schedules we have "Advisory" time built in. About half of the Advisory times we have this year are dedicated to Academic and Career Planning or ACP. ACP is state mandated and our district has created the ACP lessons for each grade level so our students receive a common curriculum at all grade levels and across all schools. Please access the links below for an update on our ACP process for this school year.

Method Test Prep- Spanish
Method Test Prep- English

"Shrek" the Musical - If you have not seen one of our drama productions, now would be the time to enjoy "Shrek" the musical that will have numerous showings coming up in March. Please come and enjoy the brilliant work of our students! See information below:

AVID for West High School - Today we provided lunch for approximately 56 freshmen students who may be a fit to join the rigorous college preparation program known as AVID which will kick off next school year at West and focuses on our current freshmen students only. The selection process for being part of the AVID family is a journey and students have to earn their place within the program through meeting specific criteria. We sent letters to students and their families who might be a great fit for AVID to learn more about this program through our AVID Parent Showcase night which will be from 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. tomorrow night Tuesday, February 13th in the West Media Center. The AVID Showcase is open to any and all parents and students to come and learn more about this program if they so chose even if they did not receive a personal letter. We will be expanding the program to 9th and 11th grade students for the 2019 -2020 school year. Learn more at "What is AVID?"
