Principal's Blog Week of May 22nd, 2023

Last blog of the 2022-2023 school year!

Memorial Day - Unofficially marks the end of school and the anticipation of the start of summer. I wish all West families a wonderful summer! Please remember this holiday is about remembering those throughout the almost 247-year history of our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice to give their lives in defense of it for the freedoms we enjoy every day!

Road Construction around West this summer... - Beginning after graduation, the intersection of West's main entrance and Saylesville Road will be under construction. This will push all the way down Saylesville Road to Lawrence Ln. The intersection will be getting updated traffic lights and an updated right turn lane when coming out of West High School. We will keep the main entrance open as much as possible, however, we have a second entrance off of River Rd./Cty H that may have to be utilized. Please be patient and be prepared for this construction!

They wore their future (college, career, or military) apparel to help us celebrate them! A few pics below..

Waukesha West is a Heart Safe School!! - What this means is that through the leadership of Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Mr. Kyle LeMieux along with the support of Project ADAM through Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, we have met criteria as a team that allows us to respond more quickly and proficiently to medical emergencies and utilize CPR as well as our AED's. Scholar Athlete Banquet
 - Congratulations to our scholar athletes who were recognized for their outstanding achievement while participating in athletics. Along with recognizing student/athletes at all grade levels, our Senior scholar/athletes were given specific awards based on their leadership. It was a great event and congrats to all scholar/athletes who were recognized by having a minimum 3.5 GPA for Semester one of this school year! Below are some pics of the event...

Prom 2023 - Prom is this Saturday, May 6th at the Ingleside Hotel in Waukesha. Doors will open at 6:00 P.M. with dinner starting at 6:45 P.M. The dance will go until 11:00 P.M. All those attending are subject to a random breathalyzer test as they enter the Ingleside as part of our entrance protocol. All guests filled out an admittance form that laid out rules and expectations for the event, so lets make this a great event as it has been annually with exceptional students behavior!! The final narrative is dancing properly... Partner dancing is expected to be tasteful and respectful: i.e. vertical and face to face!

Principal Blog Week of April 17th, 2023

Dress Code Reminders - With Spring upon us, I want to remind students and families about our dress code policy. Our school has a dress code under the same premise that any business or workplace etc. will have a dress code. Below is the partial narrative from our "Student Handbook" on Dress & Grooming expectations. Here is the link to our handbook and a link to School Board Policy 5511 on Dress & Grooming for anyone to reference.

Dress and Grooming (5511)

Students are prohibited from the wearing of hats, hoods, or other headwear (including hoodies) and coats or jackets in school on regular school days. The Principal of any school may allow exceptions to this policy for any legitimate reason (religious, medical, or otherwise) or in the celebration of a specified pep rally, spirit day, or hat day.

Any clothing, jewelry, body art, or any accessory advertising alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs are at a counter purpose with district AODA programs and therefore deemed inappropriate. Students should dress appropriately for school and must refrain from wearing items that display excessive midriffs, low-cut tops, and undergarments.  Students who violate the above rules/guidance will not be admitted to class and may be suspended from school.

Senior Vs. Staff Basketball Game - The staff wins again!!!! Not sure what the final score was, but it was a double-digit margin in victory, though I will say the students put up a good fight and stayed around longer than many teams have in the past!!. In my previous blog post, I shared a picture of me after our last staff championship game holding the trophy and donning my Waukesha Celtics warm-up top and my Waukesha East-side all-star shorts! I am 84% sure this is me surrounded by our staff team with our newest championship trophy, though I do not really even resemble my previous picture! Way to go West staff!!

Graduation 2023 - Graduation day for all three Waukesha legacy high schools will be Saturday, June 10th, 2023. Waukesha West High School will be holding graduation ceremonies in the West Fieldhouse on this date beginning at 1:00 P.M. As we are one community divided into three high schools, graduation times among all three high schools are staggered to enable friends and family to attend multiple ceremonies if they so choose. South High School ceremonies will begin at 9:00 A.M. and North High School ceremonies will begin at 11:00 A.M. on this date. Please begin informing friends and family who will be attending!

Scholarship Blog is active!! - This scholarship blog site is linked here and is accessible through our school website. Students can search for all the different scholarships available such as West only, Local, WEF (Waukesha Educational Foundation), State, and National scholarships.
