March 6th Weekly Blog

"The West App" - Is here! It is available in the App Store and for Android devices. Just search for Waukesha West. Did you know the more that the app is used, the more funding is generated for the programs at West High School? I am working to have the app available in Self-Service for student iPads. For parents...please let all friends and families know to download our app for the most convenient way to find the information you want regarding West. You can even fill out a form for attendance....another option for your convenience! Please check out the analytics...we already have 24 people who have downloaded it!!! Do not be left out, get it on your device, and again I will inform students when it is available district wide.

Purpose Corner - Please enjoy the brief video as I continue my talking points about our Theory of Action from last week which is driving our work for this school year focused around increasing rigor.

Academic Decathlon State Competition - Finishing third overall, the West AcaDec team had multiple award winners at this year's State Competition. Medal winners included Uma Subramanian, Christian Brantner, Jordan Rodrigues, Zach Nelton, and Cameron Chyla, who earned seven medals, including two for perfect scores. Both Cameron and Jordan earned Top Scholar Awards, and Cameron, Sean McSorley, Jordan, and Christian all earned perfect scores in the Super Quiz Relay event. Congrats, West Acadec, on your hard work this season!

Waukesha Wings State Hockey - The Waukesha Wings wish to thank everyone who came out to support them in their 26-4 season. Co-Conference Champs. Sectional Champs. And 2nd in State this past weekend. Officially THE best season in Wing Hockey history. Your continued support helped make this all possible. Congrats to Ian Malcolmson who was voted, "Mr Hockey Wisconsin", AND "States Top Forward" last week. What an honor. Thanks for a great season Wings and please enjoy the article linked below about Ian Malcolmson!

"Leadership Conference West" - On February 23rd, 2017, approximately 200 Waukesha West student-athletes attended the 5th annual West Athletics Leadership Conference at RiverGlen Church.  Students worked through team building exercises, participated in seminars regarding relevant leadership topics, created action plans for their programs, and joined together for the "Pass the Torch" ceremony to close the day.  We are excited to see our culture of leadership move from a one day event into a way of life at West High School through empowering student-athlete leadership! This was an amazing day as our students had intentional conversations about their leadership and how that impacts their teams and fellow peers. I could not even have fathomed doing this in high school, but to see our students and hear their thoughtful conversation was nothing short of incredible!! Kudos to our Associate Principal/Athletic Director Kyle LeMieux for empowering students to own, run and reap the benefits of this leadership summit!!

Varsity Cheerleaders - They took 3rd Place in both the Super-Small Stunt and Large Cheer-Dance Divisions at the WACPC State Cheer Competition on Saturday!! Congratulations, Ladies!

Peter Pan
 - The West End Players have done it again with Peter Pan! The hard work and preparation have paid off and the show is spectacular! Musical, acrobatic, funny and magical...it has it all. You cannot get any better feedback than when kids want to be your character! Below is my youngest son (who dressed himself) posing with Captain Hook!!...while my oldest is in the background acting like Peter Pan (who he wants to be) and is ready to pounce on Hook! It is a must see and they are performing again this coming weekend..please come and enjoy.

Graduation 2017 Dates & Times: Graduation day for the all three Waukesha legacy high schools will be June 10th, 2017. Waukesha West High School will be holding graduation ceremonies in the West Fieldhouse on this date beginning at 2:00 P.M. As we are one community divided into three high schools, this year graduation times among all three high schools are staggered to enable friends and family to attend multiple ceremonies if they so choose. South High School ceremonies will begin at 10:00 A.M. and North High School ceremonies will begin at 12:00 P.M. on this date. Please begin informing friends and family who will be attending.

Project Graduation - Every year our parent community puts on an amazing event for West graduating Seniors known as "Project Graduation." You cannot truly understand all of the work and effort that goes into to making this go off without a hitch and more importantly a culminating event to celebrate our Seniors after a four year journey through our halls. Please access the link below if you would like to check out how you can help out through volunteering your time or supporting this event through donations..... Project Graduation Website Link

Forensics - The forensics team recently traveled to Milton High School to compete in a Friday Night Lights Tournament and took 4th place in the small team category.  Five of the team's entries qualified for the finals (the power round) at the event's conclusion, and from those five, we had a 1st place finish by junior Jordan Rodrigues in his Public Address speech on the Electoral College and a 3rd place finish by freshmen Lauren Meunier and Madison Lorenz in play acting. The team is hosting a subdistrict festival tomorrow at West. This is the first gateway for students to qualify their speech and performance selections for State. Good luck to all involved!
