Surviving Semester Exams!!! - See the schedule for our semester one exam week below. It is also accessible through our school's website. Please access this link to see the Advisory lesson that was presented to West students to prepare for these exams.

AVID Showcase at West High School - AVID has a successful track record nationwide and is currently finding success with West High School 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students. The framework aims to bring out the very best in individuals and ensure that they are eligible and ready to enter a four-year college after high school graduation. AVID students are leaders in both academics and in extra-curricular activities If you would like to learn more about AVID as a student or parent you invited to attend an informational meeting that will explain the AVID program in more detail on:

The AVID Team is offering a Parent Information Session on:

Thursday, January 16th, 2020 from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. in the Waukesha West Media Center

If you cannot attend the meeting but are still interested in learning more about or considering applying for the program, please contact Mrs. Kristen Paulin in the Student Services office at 970-3927 or email her at kpaulin@waukesha.k12.wi.us.You may want to visit www.avid.org for more information about the program.  If you have any further questions, please contact our AVID site coordinator Ms. Court Hagan at chagan@waukesha.k12.wi.us or 262-970-1364.

Scheduling!! - Our data has been clear at West for the past several years in that 90% of West students state they will go on to a two or four-year college for their post-high school education, yet, only 50% of students will make it past year one and that is why we push as a school to prepare our students better. A big part of preparing students to meet the challenges of the next level is course selection. With course scheduling coming up in February it is time to think about stretching your academic resume. A stretch class is rigorous, possibly AP or Honors, a class that a college admissions counselor would find impressive, and/or a class that will help you reach your fullest potential as a student. You could also choose to take an additional class instead of a study hall. This is a goal class for you. Think about what content area you excel in and stretch in that area or try something new and challenging!!

Academic Decathlon - On Friday, January 10, the West Acadec Team competed at the Regional event.  They placed third out of the 10 teams at their site and sixth in the state-wide ranking. Thanks to their stellar performance, West Acadec will be heading to the State Competition in March! Congrats to all members and supporters of the Acadec team!

Notable accomplishments include:

- 8 individuals earning ribbons in at least one event
- 27 ribbons earned
- 2 overall top scorers from amongst approximately 90
     competitors

Model UN - On December 18th a small contingent of our Model United Nations Club traveled to Arrowhead for a mini-conference with area high schools.
This conference was unique in that rather than teams of students representing countries, each student represented a country by his/her-self. The topic was Child Refugees. Our students represented Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Greece, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Serbia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Turkey. Only two awards were given out at the conference and West won both!

Congratulations to Riyana Chawla for her research and essay on Sudan and Anna Hobbins for her research and essay on Italy!

Interact - Interact Club delivered $1000 worth of diapers, undershirts, hygiene products, kitty formula, dog food, and clean up items to the Hope Center and HAWS on December 18th prior to the holiday break. They were SO happy to get donations this time of the year. Interact is one example of the giving spirit our students possess!

Looking for work....become an AVID tutor! - The School District of Waukesha and West High School are continuing to look for AVID tutors. We are looking for people who want part-time work and are seeking to make a difference with our students. We have a consistent need district-wide to fill tutoring positions as AVID is continuing to bring success and is spreading throughout our district. Please consider joining our successes with AVID or pass this information along to someone you think would be a great fit. The flyer and information for the position are below:
